What actually drains an Android phone overnight
A phone that loses ten percent overnight while sitting untouched is usually being woken up, again and again, by something small.
Measure first
Charge to full, note the time, and leave it alone. In the morning the battery history shows whether the drain was steady or came in bursts. Bursts point to scheduled work; a steady slope points to something holding a wakelock.
Common culprits
- Apps that keep a connection open with short keepalive intervals.
- Sync jobs that retry aggressively when the network is poor.
- Location requests from apps that have no reason to know where you are at 3 a.m.
Fix one thing at a time
Change one setting per night and compare. It is slow, but it is the only way to know which change helped.
